John Heerspink, Jr. 76, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on April 9, 2018 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.

John was born on March 27, 1942 in Holland, the son of Dora (Klooster) and John Heerspink, Sr.  The family immigrated to Canada in the late 1940’s later moving to Washington, settling in the Lynden/Everson area where John was raised and attended school.   John worked on local dairy farms as a teen then began working as a truck driver with Georgia Pacific doing road construction and then as a long haul truck driver.

He was united in marriage to Sylvia Taft in 1979 and they have made their home in Sedro-Woolley for the past 39 years.

John was an avid sprint car racing fan, frequently attending races at Deming Raceway; he also enjoyed traveling, RVing and wintering in Arizona.  He was a member of the American Legion club in Snohomish.

John is survived by his wife, Sylvia; sons, Shane Parker and wife Cookie of Sedro-Woolley, Frank Heerspink and wife Wendy of Buckley, WA and Eugene Heerspink and wife Becky of Arizona; two brothers, Ralph Heerspink and wife Louann and Jake Heerspink and wife Kathy, of Lynden; ten grandchildren, Colton, Brady, Autumn, Amber, Tyler, Andrew, Kenzie, Kailey, Savannah and Wyatt; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Theresa Duree.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.  Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.  Share memories of John and sign the online guest register.

John had an impact on my life.
Born in 1942, John told stories of how his family emigrated from Europe. As I remember, as a newborn he was hidden from Nazi soldiers searching for folks attempting to flee.
Hope the date of the service is published in the paper.
My best to Frank and Geno.
    Peace.

John was a friend of ours for many years.
We met him at the races and shared lots of good times hanging around his motor home and travelling with him.
He could take a teasing like the best and we all enjoyed him.
