John L. Peters age 86, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA.
He was born April 4, 1920 in Abingdon, Virginia, the son of John and Maggie Kennedy Peters.
John grew up in Abingdon, Virginia attending school and was married to Martha Caldwell on September 21, 1939 in Abingdon. During WWII, he served with the US Army in Africa and after the war he taught school. John again served during Korea and continued his military service until his retirement in 1961. After his military service, John worked for the Tom Payne Co and Bendix Corporation in Saudi Arabia and later worked for Lockheed Shipyards until moving to Sedro-Woolley 29 years ago. John enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and gambling.
John is survived by his six sons, Terry and his wife Sandy of Vista, CA, Randy of Walla Walla, Jerry and his wife Cindy of Sedro-Woolley, Ricky and his wife Lori of Concrete, Jeff of Blaine, Monty and his wife Caroline of Marysville and three daughters, Francis and her husband Stone, Tanna and her husband James, and Debbie all of Sedro-Woolley. 36 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha in 1994 and several brothers and sisters.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, September 24, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Leon Meyer of the Calvary Baptist Church of Burlington officiating.
