JOHN P. RUSH, 92, a lifelong Skagit County resident passed away at his home in Sedro-Woolley on Friday July 19, 2002.
He was born in Hamilton, WA on May 2, 1910, the son of George M. and Beunia Angel Rush. As a young boy John moved to Lyman and then Sedro-Woolley where he attended grade school at Eutopia, just east of Sedro-Woolley. John began working at a young age, first working in the timber industry and then as a Union laborer in the construction field. He helped build portions of N.A.S. Whidbey and also sections of I-5. John was united in marriage to Emma Hills in Burlington in 1970 and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley. He raised several acres of berries, growing Raspberries, Marionberries and Boysenberries, which he would sell to merchants and the public.
John was a 59 year member of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local 901, a member of the Elks Lodge, 1604 and of the Northern Peaks Christian Fellowship Free Methodist Church. John was preceded in death by his wife Emma in May of 2001. His brothers, George & Bob Rush and his sisters, Dorothy Wilson, Gertrude Brown and Rita Allen.
He is survived by his 5 nephews and their wives, Roy & Eleanor Brown of Bellevue, WA; Gary & Carol Worline and Doug & Sue Allen of Sedro-Woolley. Don & Debbie Allen of Bow and Roger & Leslie Allen of Graham, WA. His niece, Gloria Hurd of Sedro-Woolley, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Sunday July 28, 2002 at 2:00 PM at the Northern Peaks Christian Fellowship in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Tim Griffin officiating. Private inurnment will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials to the Northern Peaks Christian Fellowship or the Heart Fund are suggested.
