JOHN R. GASHO, 91, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident passed away on Monday January 6, 2003 at the Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley.
John was born on March 12, 1911 in Beach, North Dakota, the son of Amos & Bertha Rungan Gasho. He was raised and attended school in North Dakota. On March 18, 1936 he was united in marriage to Lily Ness in Sentinel Butte, ND. In 1936 they came to Washington, settling in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. For nearly 20 years John worked as a powderman and head shovel operated at the lime quarry there. He also operated a 122 acre farm on the island. In 1956 they moved to Sedro-Woolley. He worked at the veneer plant in Concrete making plywood for 7 years until an injury forced his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle and a variety of other card games. He also was a member of the Samish Grange.
He is survived by 1 son, Gordon Gasho and 1 daughter, Fay Stewart both of Sedro-Woolley. 1 brother, Bill Gasho of Ohio. A son-in-law, Wayne Jackson of Sedro-Woolley. 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lily in 1999, a son Kenneth in 2000 and a daughter Laraine Jackson in 2001.
The family suggests memorials be made to the District #8 Fire Department.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel. Inurnment will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
