Judy Rose Rantschler, 68, a lifelong Skagit Valley resident, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Judy was born in Sedro-Woolley on May 20, 1950, the daughter of Rawson & Muthel (Wilson) Hornbeck.  She was raised in the Concrete area and attended Concrete High School where she was active in school activities.  She graduated with the class of 1968.

Judy was united in marriage to John Rantschler on May 1, 1970 in Concrete and there they made their home and raised their children.

Judy worked for over 30 years with the Skagit County Public Works department, first as a flagger out of the Concrete shop, then as an office assistant and finally as a sign technician manufacturing street and road signs.

While living in Concrete Judy was very active with Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and then after moving to Big Lake in 2005, became involved with Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley.

Judy enjoyed board games, traveling working in her yard and flower garden, but above all being with her family which included many of the kids in the community.

Judy is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Rantschler of Big Lake; her children and their spouses, Tina & Eli Sanchez of Burlington, Carrie & Jeremy Fenton of Sedro-Woolley and Erik Rantschler of Sedro-Woolley; 3 grandchildren, Morgan Sanchez, Jalen Rantschler and Deacon Fenton; brother, Bert Hornbeck and wife Reta; 2 sisters, Karon Hornbeck and Esther Rothe and husband Tom and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rawson & Muthel; infant brother, Rawson Hornbeck; sister, Stella Teachman and 2 grandsons, Juan & Logan Sanchez.

Funeral Services will held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley. Interment will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery.  Visitation will be available at Lemley Chapel on Friday from 9 am to 6 pm with the family greeting visitors from 4 to 5 pm. Memorials in honor of Judy are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
