Karen Irene White

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Karen Irene White, 68, of Sedro-Woolley, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born on October 11, 1942 in Sedro-Woolley, the daughter of Melvin and Myrtle (Hall) Hoffman.  Karen was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating with the class of 1960.  After graduation, she worked at the Doctor’s Hospital in Seattle where she met the love of her life, Jim, who was stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.  The two were married in Madison, Missouri on September 2, 1962.

Over the years, Karen worked for Skagit Corporation in Sedro-Woolley, Western Washington Farm Crops Association in Mt. Vernon, and later for Jim’s Hauling in Mt. Vernon.  She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and doing crossword puzzles.   She had a special love for the many animals she raised over the years.  Karen had a passion for  softball, playing catcher for the women’s slow-pitch team, “The Skagit State Bunnies” during the early 80’s.  Her rise to fame in the majors was cut short by a run-in at home plate, leaving her with a broken ankle, ending her career.

Karen is survived by her husband, Jim, at the family home; her three children, Jeff Sather of Sedro-Woolley, Kim White (Flones) of Wenatchee, James W. “Woody” White who recently moved to Wenatchee; granddaughters Danielle Flones and Jacylyn Flones of Wenatchee; great-grandson, Mason Stallings of  Wenatchee; sister Lynette Pollard and her husband Pete of Sedro-Woolley, sister Mary Mulrooney of Sedro-Woolley; brother Tom Mulrooney of Idaho, and many other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, her stepmother, and an infant brother.

Funeral Services will be Friday, November 5, 2010 at 2:00PM at Lemley Chapel with interment to follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
