LaDean Smith Goodwillie, 93, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on January 5, 2020 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.

LaDean was born on August 26, 1926 in Van Horn, WA, the daughter of Irvin & Arta (Emmerton) Jensen.  She was raised and attended school in Concrete, graduating from Concrete High School with the class of 1943.

After high school LaDean worked as a nursing assistant in the OB department at Rawley Hospital in Mount Vernon and then at the NAS Whidbey Island Hospital in Oak Harbor.  It was in Oak Harbor that she met James Smith; they were united in marriage in 1946.   Together they made their home and raised their family in Oak Harbor; where for many years LaDean operated an in-home Day Care facility.

Jim passed away in 1998. In 2000 she married longtime acquaintance, Karol Goodwillie, and they have made their home in Sedro-Woolley.

LaDean loved the outdoors, spending time with her boys, camping, fishing, or just playing ball in the yard. Washing the after dinner dishes was always the time to discuss school, sports, girls or whatever she could get out of them. Every friend of her sons became her kids also. This continued throughout her life collecting grandkids and great grandkids.   In her later years, one of her great joys was holidays with friends and family and dinner and dancing with husband Karol. Friday nights at the legion hall was always on their schedule.

We bid farewell to a wonderful lady, great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, wife, sister and aunt. From all your kids over all the years, we love you mom.

LaDean is survived by her husband, Karol at the family home in Sedro-Woolley; 2 sons, Michael Smith and wife Linda and Rod Smith and wife Sandra of Cody, WY; 2 grandchildren, Jason Smith (Sarah) and Lacey Bangart (Bill); 2 great-grandchildren, Tristan Smith and Brynley Bangart; step-daughter, Lori Stallo; 2 step-grandchildren, Lisa & Kyle Stallo; 2 sisters, Dolores Johnson and JoAnn Shears (Ken) and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James, and brothers, Gordon ‘Bud’ Jensen and Gale Jensen.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the American Legion Hall in Sedro-Woolley.   Share memories of LaDean and sign the online guest register.
