   Larry Neal DeLano, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 1999 at his home in Sedro-Woolley, WA at the age of 61 years. He was born January 9, 1938 in Sunnyside, WA the son of Thurston G. and Doris I. Hoggatt DeLano. Larry grew up in Sunnyside until moving with his family to Kent, WA where he attended school until enlisting in the U.S. Navy at age 17. He served on the following icebreakers USS Atka and USS Burton Island in Antarctica on expeditions with Admiral Byrd. After his naval service he resided in the Kent area working as a roofer. For the past 17 years, Larry lived in Sedro-Woolley where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising racing pigeons. He was a member of the Concrete Eagles, VFW Post 933 Burlington, George Baldridge Post #31 American Legion, and the American Racing Pigeon Association. Larry was known for his wit, intelligence, outgoing personality, and his positive outlook on life. He also was famous for his nicknames of his friends and family.
He is survived by his son, Larry (Rocky) DeLano, Jr of Sumas; daughters, Cami Martin of Arlington, Lori DeLano of Phoenix, AZ, and Karen DeLano Warren of Bellingham; stepson, Scott Bauder of Burlington; father, Thurston G. DeLano of Sedro-Woolley; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Lowell Engberg of Sedro-Woolley; 4 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Doris in 1995 and his brother Thurston, “Bud” Delano in 1977 and Everett “Buzz” DeLano in 1998.
Funeral services will be on Friday, July 9, 1999 at 2:00PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Harold Thornbrough of the Hamilton First Baptist Church officiating with interment to follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. A reception will follow the services at the American Legion Hall in Sedro-Woolley.
