LAWRENCE A. ‘SONNY’ COMSTOCK, 73, a longtime resident of Concrete, WA, passed away at his home on Thursday January 9, 2003.
Sonny was born on October 31, 1929 in Oak-Harbor, WA the son of Earl & Edith Holt Comstock. The family moved to Clear Lake, WA when Sonny was a young boy and he attended grade school there. They later moved to Bellingham, WA where he graduated from Bellingham High School in the late 1940’s. He worked as a yarder operator in the timber industry for over 50 years, mostly in logging in Skagit & Whatcom Counties. He did work in Alaska for a short time in the 1960’s. He worked mostly for A.L.R.T. Logging until his retirement in 1994. He was united in marriage to Lucille Howell in Couer d’ Alene, Idaho on June 14, 1969 and they made their home in Concrete. Sonny was a longtime supporting member of the American Legion Post 132 in Concrete and a 25 year volunteer fireman for the Concrete Fire Dept. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and growing vegetables in his garden to share with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Lucille at the family home in Concrete. 1 daughter, Vickie Norris & her husband Gladen, of Concrete. 2 sons, Larry Comstock & his wife Geri of Spokane, WA and Tom Comstock & his wife Linda of Sedro-Woolley. His brother, Glen Comstock & his wife Pam of Battle Ground, WA. His mother-in-law, Louise Howell of Concrete. 4 brothers-in-law and their spouses, Orland & Maxine Howell of Soap Lake, WA, Albert & Claryda Howell of Wenatchee, WA, and Mickey & Donna Howell and Ronald & Jean Howell of Concrete. 3 sisters-in-law, Ellen Orr of North Bend, WA, Norma Comstock of Sedro-Woolley and Rita Comstock Miller of Kennewick, WA. 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Edith. 2 brothers, Howard & Chet Comstock. 3 grandchildren, and his father-in-law, George Howell. The family suggests memorials be made to Concrete Aero-Skagit Medic 1 or the Deming Log Show.
Funeral Services will be held Monday January 13, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Rob Thomas of the Concrete Community Bible Church officiating.
