    Linda Marie Hazel, 72, a resident of Bellingham, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, surrounded by her loving family.

    Linda was born in Bellingham on April 9, 1942, the daughter of Paul & Elfreida (Schultz) VanLiew.  She was raised and attended grade school in Bellingham until the early 1950’s when the family moved to Clipper and she attended school in Deming, graduating from Mount Baker High School with the class of 1960.

   On December 3, 1960 Linda was united in marriage to Percy Hazel in Bellingham and they made their first home in the Seattle area for 3 years, moving to Sedro-Woolley in 1963 where they resided and raised their family until 1972 when they moved to Birdsview, making that their home for nearly 20 years until finally returning to Bellingham in the early 1990’s.

    Linda was a loving wife and mother and devoted most of her time to her family and friends.  Her leisure time found her oil painting, crocheting and knitting.   For a while she bowled in a women’s bowling league at Riverside Lanes in Mount Vernon.

    Linda is survived by her husband, Percy, at the family home in Bellingham; her sons, Steven Hazel and wife Judy of Lynden and Dan Hazel and wife Sheila of Concrete; 9 grandchildren, Jillian, Caleb, Audrey, Lydia, Jacob, Kody and Morgan Hazel, and William and Monica McDaniel; her brother, Gary VanLiew and wife Charleen of Deming; nephews, Ken & James VanLiew and niece, Melissa Haigh.   Linda was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Percy Nelson Hazel, IV, and a nephew, Kevin VanLiew.     

Graveside Inurnment Services for Linda will be held at the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM followed by a fellowship gathering at the Concrete Assembly of God Church. In memory of Linda memorials are suggested to Whatcom Hospice House, 2806 Douglas Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225.
