Lowell W. Engberg

Thursday, October 13th, 2016

Lowell W. Engberg, 76, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident and businessman, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
He was born on March 28, 1940, the son of Alexander and Margaret (Corrigan) Engberg.
On December 21, 1963 he was united in marriage to Faye DeLano in Seattle, celebrating 53 years of marriage. They made their home in Seattle where Lowell’s first job was driving truck for Herrett Trucking.
In 1973 he moved his family from Seattle to Sedro-Woolley where they established a home and farm on Fruitdale Road. There they enjoyed their animals and spending time together outside “farming”.
In 1978 Lowell opened and operated Low Auto Sales in Sedro-Woolley, and for 36 years served the community of Sedro-Woolley with pride and dignity until his retirement.
His heart belonged to his family. His favorite thing to do was to pose the grandchildren on the fridge and take their picture. He also loved to spend time with his friends at the family kitchen table over coffee and cigarettes… where the front door was revolving with friends and family, and the coffee was always hot. If you were friends with Lowell, you were considered family.
Many memories were made at the family property at Big Lake, where he was especially known for his campout and 3rd of July fireworks shows. He also enjoyed time cutting kindling; and Lowell loved his classic cars, his ‘42 Ford convertible, ’49 Ford convertible and his ’68 Cadillac. Lowell and Faye spent many years as members of JJ’s Cruisers Car Club, attending and assisting in many cars shows, weekend campouts and out of state street rod shows. There they established lifelong relationships. Lowell was also well known for and his creative use of duct tape and “DW 40” to fix anything and make it work.
Lowell is survived by his wife Faye of Sedro-Woolley; his daughter, Denise Hamilton (Kevin) of Sedro-Woolley; 2 sons, Joe Engberg (Khirstie) of Mount Vernon and Jim Engberg (Julie) of Burlington; nephew, Clayton DeLano (Alina) of Mount Vernon; daughter-in-law, Kim Engberg of Sedro-Woolley; 2 sisters, Sonja Gower (Jim) and Jan Crinch (Don) and 1 brother, Denny Engberg (Joetta) all of Seattle; 11 grandchildren, Crystal (Forbes) Wray, Kyle Engberg, Lauren VanDerPol, Cody & Kellen Engberg, Kayla & Travis Edin, Kolten & Kylie Hamilton, and Axia & Jaeger Engberg; 5 great-grandchildren, Mason & Lola Wylie, Harlow Edin, Caroline Engberg, and Jackson DeLano; numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family, and special loved ones Justin & Jada Trammell, Garvin & Tami DeLano, Gary & Liz DeLano, Carole & Morty Webb, Lorrie Hornbeck, Lynn Weymouth, Jerry Sardarov and his dog Honey. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Denny Engberg and brother, Vic Engberg.
A special thank you to the staff at the Skagit Valley and Mount Baker Kidney Centers, Jessica Klassen and Doctors Lombart and Moss.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Inspire Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Ron Deegan officiating. Interment will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery followed by a fellowship gathering at the S-W Community Center. Visitation will be available on Thursday from 1pm to 5pm and Friday from 9am to 5pm at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Denny Engberg Memorial Fund, c/o Heritage Bank are suggested.
