MABEL B. SCHWENK, 91, a Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Sunday March 9, 2003 at the Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon.
She was born on October 22, 1911 in Haydraw, SD, the daughter of Stanley and Abbie Leary Barry. She was raised and attended school in South Dakota. On October 29, 1932 she was united in marriage to Earl Schwenk in Sturgis, SD. They resided for many years in the Yakima Valley and in Medical Lake until coming to Skagit County in 1963, living in Burlington and Sedro-Woolley. Mabel was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her fabulous apple pie.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Don Schwenk of Bellevue, Idaho and Gerald Schwenk and his wife Bobbie of Astoria, Oregon. 8 grandchildren, Carla Long and Stan Schwenk of Astoria, OR, Christine Moore and Marvin and Rodney Schwenk of Boise, ID, Nicole Cartney of Verona, PA, Gordon Schwenk of Bellevue, WA and Tyrone Schwenk of Bellevue, ID. 5 great-grandchildren, Tara & Jessie Cartney, Austin Schwenk and Robin & Curtis Long. 2 sisters, Ruth Aby of Rapid City, SD and Fern Brettin of Renville, MN and a special friend, Carolyn Rathvon of Mount Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1991.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Sedro-Woolley First Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Richard Coursen, officiating. The graveside committal will be at Hawthorne Memorial Park Cemetery in Mount Vernon at 2:00 PM. Services under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
