MALCOLM P. O’BRIEN, a longtime resident of Burlington passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday June 9, 2002. He was 81 years of age.
He was born in Oxnard, CA on September 11, 1920, the son of Matthew & Helen Roberts O’Brien.
In 1921 the family moved to Skagit County and Malcolm was raised and attended grade school in the Big Lake area. He also attended and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1938 and the Edison Vocational School in Seattle in 1940.
In 1941 he returned to Skagit County and was employed by the Skagit Corporation in Sedro-Woolley. He worked as a warehouseman, machinist, leadman, production control manager and others and for the last 8 years as a Superintendent of manufacturing. He retired in 1984 after 43 years of service.
He was united in marriage to Myrtle Buchanan in Sedro-Woolley on October 15, 1971 and they have made their home in Burlington since 1972.
He was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks, the Swinomish Yacht Club and was past president of the Burlington Kiwanis Club. He also served as president of the home owners association in his neighborhood; was a member of the Skagit Men’s Garden Club, the Skagit Computer Club and was a director for the Skagit County Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle at the family home in Burlington.

2 nieces, Gloria Prince and her husband Eugene of Seattle, WA and Elizabeth Hoerner and her husband Tom of Los Angeles, CA.
1 nephew, Robert O’Brien and his wife Judy of Seattle, WA.
2 step-sons, Ronald Tingley his wife Wendy and Tom Tingley and his wife Nancy all of Sedro-Woolley. 5 step-grandchildren, Cathy Cozza Chris, Andrea Shick David, Josh Tingley Courtney, Jeannie Wright Maury and Paul Tingley Rhonda and numerous step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Edward.
Memorials to Skagit Hospice, Trinity United Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice are suggested.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 13, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Wendy Tingley of Trinity United Presbyterian Church officiating.
