Mamie S. Greer, a beloved soul who graced this world for 98 years, peacefully departed to be with the Lord on August 13, 2024, at her home in Sedro-Woolley, Washington. Born on May 29, 1926, in Trade, Tennessee, Mamie was the seventh child of Joe and Ida Wallace. She grew up in a hardworking family and one of eleven children.
Her early life was spent working alongside her siblings on a 277-acre farm in Mountain City, Tennessee, where she learned the values of hard work and familial devotion. Mamie’s professional journey began with the Big Jack Overall Company and continued at Southern Bell Telephone, where she applied her skills with dedication.
Mamie’s life was enriched by her marriage to Ernest Stephens, who was in the Air Force taking them across the globe to Japan. Following Ernest’s passing, she found new joy with Carl Greer, a security guard and a good Christian man, in North Carolina. Although Mamie did not have children of her own, her love and affection for her nieces and nephews were boundless. Her stories of the past and deep knowledge of family history have become treasured parts of her legacy.
She is survived by numerous nieces; nephews; a special friend, Joyce Stephens.
Mamie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; ten siblings.
Her spirit, characterized by wisdom, love for the Lord, kindness, and warmth, will continue to illuminate the lives of those who knew her.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Union Cemetery, Sedro-Woolley. Share your memories of Mamie.
