Margaret E. Bacus, 91, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed aw ay on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Birchview Memory Care in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on August 9, 1918 in St. Joseph County, Indiana, the daughter of Ernest & Emma Maier Wagner. In 1920 the family moved to Ruby, Wisconsin where she was raised and attended school.
In 1947 Margaret moved with her family to Wenatchee, Washington where she lived until 1951 when she moved to Mount Vernon.
In 1953 she began working as a cook and baker for Max Dale’s restaurant in Mount Vernon, where she worked for 25 years until her retirement in 1989.
In 1963 Margaret was united in marriage to A.E. ‘Turk’ Bacus in Sedro-Woolley and for the past 46 years they have made their home in Sedro-Woolley.
Margaret loved cooking and baking and always had ‘goodies ‘ available when the grandchildren would visit. She and Turk enjoyed camping, traveling and fishing together and she loved it when family and friends would stop by to chat. Margaret was also a longtime member of the George Baldridge Post 43 American Legion Auxiliary.
Margaret is survived by her husband, A.E. ‘Turk’ Bacus of Sedro-Woolley. Her sons, Ken McCulloch and his wife Barbara of Mount Vernon, Fred McCulloch and Edward Bacus both of Sedro-Woolley and Jerry Bacus and his wife Suzanne of Henderson, Nevada, and her daughter, Paula Miller and her husband Larry of Sun City, Arizona. Her brother, Leonard Wagner and his wife Dottie in Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest & Emma Wagner, a daughter-in-law, Sara McCulloch, two brothers and two sisters.
The Bacus family wish to acknowledge and thank the entire staff at Birchview Memory Care for their compassionate care during Margaret’s stay. They also request that memorials in her memory be made to a charity of your choice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Deacon George Peterson officiating. Private family interment will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
