Marjorie A. Peters a longtime resident of Sedro-Woolley passed away Saturday, January 18, 2003 at a local care center at the age of 72 years. She was born July 31, 1930 in Sedro-Woolley the daughter of John and Etta Pitman Nicoll; being the 5th generation of her mother’s family to live in Sedro-Woolley Marjorie moved to North Bellingham as a young child returning to Sedro-Woolley in 1942 where she resided on a farm in Utopia. She attended Sedro-Woolley schools graduating with the class of 1948. Marjorie attended Western Washington State College and later married Wayne D. Peters on April 18, 1952 in Sedro-Woolley where they resided and raised their family. She was involved with many community activities as well as being an active and successful businesswomen in the Skagit Valley. Marjorie served on the Board of Trustees of the Skagit Valley College from 1971-1978 and was Chairman of the Board for 3 years being the first women to serve in that capacity. She also was a founding member of the Board of Governors of the Skagit Valley College Foundation serving as the second President of the Board from 1979-1980. She was an active member of the Republican Party serving both on state and local levels. Marjorie was an active member with the North Cross State Highway Association devoting a great deal of effort toward the completion of Highway 20 over the Cascade Mountains. She was co-founder with her good friend Bill Stendal of the Sedro-Woolley Community Thanksgiving Dinner which she helped organize and run every year up until last year. Marjorie is survived by her husband Wayne D. Peters of the family home in Sedro-Woolley. 2 daughters Kilty Peters of Barstow, CA and Kassie Peters Walker and her husband Ken of Sedro-Woolley. A son Kirk and his wife Monica Peters of Sedro-Woolley.
4 grandchildren Ricci and Sara Peters and Matthew and Marshal Rommel and nieces Kim Thompson of Anacortes and Jennifer Forney of Sudden Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Kent, a sister Jackie Nicoll, and a nephew Gary Wiggins Jr. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 2:00PM at St. James Episcopal Church with Rev William Forbes and Rev Vicki Wesen co-officiating. Private interment services will be at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Sedro-Woolley High School Alumni Association or Sedro-Woolley Volunteer Fire Department Kent Peters Memorial Scholarship Fund.
