Mattie J. Hyatt, 91, a longtime Skagit County resident, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born on November 1, 1918 in Franklin, North Carolina, the daughter of Columbus & Della (Leopard) Coggins.

Mattie was raised in North Carolina and came to Skagit County in 1947, making her home with her family in Clear Lake.   She worked in the agriculture fields and as a ward attendant at Northern State Hospital in Sedro-Woolley to support her family.

Mattie could grow and raise anything. She would can almost everything. She had hundreds of jars of fruits, vegetables and meats in her pantry.

Mattie is survived by her daughters, Frances Oxenham of Sedro-Woolley, Lucille Biemer of Mount Vernon and Fay Stewart of Renton. Her son, James K. “Jim” Hyatt of Burlington.  Her sister, Mary Brandes of Miami, Florida. 2 daughters-in-law, Janet Hyatt of Sedro-Woolley and Lynda Hyatt of Burlington and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Dewey & Ray Hyatt, son-in-law Bob Oxenham and 5 brothers & sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Billy Farrar of Grace Church officiating.  Interment will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
