MAURICE ARTHUR SWANSON, 78, a resident of Sedro-Woolley for the past 45 years, passed away from pneumonia peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, August 11, 2002.
He was born on July 3, 1924 in Arlington, WA, the son of Arthur and Margaret Campbell Swanson. He was raised in Darrington by his uncle and aunt, Johnny and Kate Campbell, along with cousins Jack Campbell and Marshall Ritchie. In 1945 he married Neva Burns in Marysville, WA and he worked in the logging industry in Darrington. He also served in the military during this time. They moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1958 where Morrie continued to drive logging trucks. He was then employed by Boyd Lumber in the late 1960’s until his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Margaret Gilmore. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Neva; a daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Wesley Haworth of Ferndale; a son and daughter-in-law Mike and Renee Swanson of Lyman; 6 grandchildren: Kevin Haworth and his wife, Jacqueline; Jennifer Bode and her husband Jeff; Erich Swanson and his wife Genevieve; Matthew, Kyle and Katheryn Swanson; 3 great-grandchildren, Tara, Julia and Anna Haworth; and his beloved dog, Sunni.
The family suggests memorials to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, 18911 Kelleher Road, Burlington, WA 98233.
Graveside Services were on Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Robyn Eddy of the Allen Blanchard United Methodist Church officiated. Services and arrangements under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
