    Mynard Franklin Ferris, Jr., 91, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, entered his heavenly home on Sunday morning, May 4, 2014 at the Birchview Memory Care Center.

    Mynard was born on July 31, 1922 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Mynard and Mabel (Osburn) Ferris, Sr.  He was raised and attended school in Rock Island.

    On November 21, 1942 he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served with the First Division or “The Big Red One” and was involved with the storming of Omaha Beach on Normandy. He also served in other locations in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, earning several citations, ribbons, and medals, including the Bronze Star. 

    During his deployment he had correspondences for over 2 years with a Miss Lorraine Johnson, a young lady he had not yet even met, and after his discharge in late October 1945, they were married in Long Beach, CA on January 26, 1946.

   Together they made their home and raised their family in Southern California and Mynard owned a lath & plaster construction company for several years.  He later received his real estate license and worked as a real estate broker.   In 1980 he and Lorraine moved to Washington, living in King County until settling in Sedro-Woolley in 1988 and Mynard operated his own brokerage firm, Certified Properties until his retirement.

    Mynard was an avid reader of the bible and attended the Bethel Assembly of God Church.

    He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley; his 4 children and their spouses, Daniel & Theresa Ferris of Estacada, OR, Suzanne & Mike Cannon of Burlington, Stephen & Ingrid Ferris of Sedro-Woolley and Christine & David Cender of Fisher, IL; 14 grandchildren, Brendan Ferris, Trisha Jones (Cory), Stephen Ferris (Rochelle), Ryan Cannon (Kristi), Kirk Cannon (Tammy), Kevin Cannon, Michelle Gordon (Jaa), Jared Cender, Joshua Cender, Melyssa Unzicker (Caleb), Rose Cender, Jhon Cender, Deanna Rusch and Lindsey Schreck (Chris);  13 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Gavin, Makayla, Elijah, Isabella, Summer, Hailey, Elle, Drew, Isabella, Collin and Havilah, Mariam and 2 nephews, Gary Ferris (Judy) and Bruce Ferris.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Ferris and his sister, Eleanor Ferris.

    Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Bill Bates of Inspire Church officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
