Michael R. ‘Mike’ Moser, 81, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Mike was born on November 15, 1934 in Monroe, WA. As a child he moved to Raymond, WA where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Raymond High School with the class of 1952.
In 1953 he enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he served his country during the Korean Conflict. He spent most of his enlistment aboard the USS Whitehurst protecting the South Pacific until his discharge in 1957. He then returned to the Raymond area and attended Grays Harbor Community College and briefly the University of Washington.
On September 10, 1960 he was united in marriage to Betty Conley and they made their home in the Seattle and Alderwood Manor areas. Mike worked for a while at Darigold; then worked as a sales representative for Metropolitan Life, and later for Humble Oil (Exxon) which transferred him to Sedro-Woolley in 1968. Beginning in 1972 he operated an Allstate Insurance agency in Mount Vernon for over 25 years.
Mike was a longtime member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Sedro-Woolley where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He and Betty enjoyed traveling around Europe, Hawaii and the Oregon coast. In the 70’s & 80’s, Mike was a Cub & Boy Scout leader. He mentored young scouts many of which, including his 3 sons, went on to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Mike was also an avid fisherman, a prolific reader and an exceptional gardener. His hand was always stretched out for a scratch behind the ear of a furry friend. But the most important thing in Mike’s life was his family, especially his grandchildren. He had a special relationship with each and every one of them.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty, at the family home. Sons and their wives, Michael & Shelley of Big Lake, Tim & Brook of Sedro-Woolley, Tom & Zita of Sedro-Woolley, grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emilie, Michael J, Madeline, Hannah, Russell & Timmy.
The Moser family would like to extend a very grateful thank you to the Doctors and Nursing staff at Skagit Valley Hospital for their care and compassion during Mike’s stay.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Wendy Tingley officiating. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Moser family. I met mike through Boy Scouts when he was a leader of the troop in Sedro Woolley. He was the kind of person that keeps popping into your mind over the years because of the good impression he made. As I was a member of Troop 1 in Mount Vernon, we enjoyed some great times in Scouting in competition between troops and in collaboration with the OA Indian dance team in the mid to late 70’s and early 80’s. Mike was a sincere, kind gentleman and was certainly a noteworthy example of living up to the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law. We will miss his presence.

I want you all to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. My mom wanted me to send you her love and condolences. Mike was a great man and I loved visiting with him when I would go in to see my dad. He was always appreciative when my dad volunteered me for grunt work ;). If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I will see you guys on the 17th.
