MILDRED JUNE GARDINIER, 87, a longtime Concrete resident, passed away on Monday, February 17 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She was born on June 14, 1915 in Belton, Texas the daughter of Thomas and Ella Garner Stokes. At age five she came to Concrete with her parents. She attended school in Van Horn and Concrete. On June 28, 1935 she was united in marriage to Dick Gardinier in Bellingham, WA and they made their home in Concrete. She was a homemaker and also worked at both the grade school and high school in Concrete as a cook. Mildred was a charter member of the Community Bible Church in Concrete where she taught Sunday school and was involved in every activity in the church. She was a Campfire leader, a volunteer for the Concrete Senior Center and a RSVP volunteer. She also cooked at various Bible camps. With her husband Dick she enjoyed traveling, fishing and their many adventures. She also enjoyed entertaining and family gatherings. Mildred was well known for her compassion towards children and enjoyed her numerous friendships.
She is survived by her son Richard Keith Gardinier and his wife Joann of Malott, WA; her daughter Karen Thomson and her husband Jim of Ellensburg, WA; 4 grandchildren; Jill Thomson, Laine Gardinier, Carla Harkness and her husband Nolan and Kristin Stewart and her husband Andy. 3 great-grandchildren; Claire and Colin Stewart and Taryn Harkness. 1 brother, Tom Stokes and his wife Maxine and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick in 1994, 1 brother Thad Stokes and an infant sister Mary Nanette Stokes. The family suggests memorials be made to the Community Bible Church or the Concrete Senior Center PO Box 787 Concrete, WA 98237.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 1:00 PM at the Community Bible Church in Concrete with Pastor Rob Thomas officiating. Burial was at the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
