Mort Bean, age 88, passed away at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA on Saturday, July 6, 2002. He was born May 6, 1914 in Sedro-Woolley, WA the son of Harry and Helen Kupert Bean. Mort grew up in Sedro-Woolley attending school and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School. For many years he owned and operated H. Bean Hardware on State Street which was established by his father. He was married to Jeanne Haynes on February 21, 1969 in Boise, Idaho. Mort served for many years of the Board of Directors of Skagit State Bank and he also was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks Lodge #1604. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII in Alaska.
Surviving Mort are his wife Jeanne Bean of Burlington. A sister Bettie and her husband Howard Breslin and a brother Ben Bean all of Bellevue. Step-children Linda Peth and companion Mark Evans of Orcas Island and David Haynes and companion Sue Thramer of Mount Vernon. Grandchildren Kelly Erickson and her husband Mark of Mount Vernon, Heath Haynes and his wife Myra of Bothell, Heather Haynes of Deming, and Jake Thramer of Mount Vernon. Great grandchildren Natalie, Matthew, and Justin Erickson and Alexa Haynes. Mort had numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mort was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Helen Bean, step mother Laura Bean, sister Libby and her husband Sam Heller and grandchildren Kirk and Kim Peth.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Rabbi Philip Rice of Temple De Hirsch Sinai of Seattle officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Hills of Eternity Cemetery located at 520 West Raye St, Queen Anne Hill, Seattle. Memorials are suggested to a charity of your choice.
