Nancy Wallace Simcox

Nancy Wallace Simcox

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

Nancy Wallace Simcox passed gently into the arms of the Lord and eternal life on September 26, 2010 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, surrounded by her loving family. Nancy was born on February 13, 1920 in Trade, TN to Ida and Joe Wallace who preceded her in death. One of eleven children, Nancy was raised on a farm and learned at an early age the meaning of hard work.

Nancy was married to Dana Harmon Simcox on November 25, 1939 and, later they moved to Detroit, Michigan where they raised their family. She worked as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell and Southern Bell Telephone Companies and retired to the Bristol, VA/TN area after 23 years of dedicated service.  Nancy was a devoted, loving, wife and caregiver to Dana until his passing in 1994. In 2006, she joined her siblings in Washington State where she happily lived her remaining days.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dana, son Alger, grandson Allen; sisters Marie Reese, Ruby Cuellar and Ella Gay Wilson; brothers Charles, George, Denver, Everett and Kermit Wallace. She is survived by her sons Harmon (Helen) of Bristol, TN and Jerry (Sandee) of Phoenix, AZ; Sister Mamie Greer of Sedro-Woolley, WA; Brother Joseph Wallace, Jr. of California; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy had a particularly strong affection for her 3 nieces in Washington State, Shirley Starkovich, Karen Wilson and Susie Wilson who were always there for Nancy and her sisters when needed.

Nancy was a wonderful role model for every life she touched. She was wise, caring, giving and most of all loving. A fabulous cook, her homemade dinner roles and coconut cake are legendary. She will be greatly missed and never, ever forgotten.

The Family would like to thank the Doctors and Staff at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley for their gentle care of Nancy during her brief illness and Bellevue Hospice for their caring and support during Nancy’s final days.

There will be a private memorial for family in Sedro-Woolley. A celebration of Nancy’s life will take place at The Bethel View Baptist Church in Blountville, TN on October 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM, to be followed by a graveside service and final rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol, VA.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Northwest 819 S. 13th Mount Vernon, WA 98273.

Arrangements and Cremation  under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

I was very sorry to hear of Nancy’s passing. She was such a sweet person. She and Dana were good friends with my Mother and Father, Earnest and Charmie Graybeal. Nancy always had a smile on her face and was very thoughtful of others. I am sure she will be greatly missed.
