OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANaomi Leota (Greenup) Berkley, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep November 11, 2014 at 9:48 p.m. Naomi was a long time resident of Skagit Valley for 49 years. She was born October 9, 1922 in Eugene, Oregon, the oldest of 12 children born to Sydney and Velma Greenup.
Naomi was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church for 47 years. She loved the Lord. Gardening was a favored hobby, no matter what seed she put in the ground or stuffed in a pot it grew, from limes and lemons to avocados. She loved Sauk Mt and from her home at its base she took pictures of it with her beloved Polaroid camera in every season and every time of day. Naomi was known for her kind heart, giving jigsaw puzzles to the propane man; and cans of smoked salmon or home grown vegetables to any neighbor who happened by. The small community on Sauk Store Road will miss her.
Naomi is survived by four brothers, Mervyn Greenup of Sonora, CA, Marshall Greenup of Meadow Valley, CA, Melford Greenup of Wolf Creek, OR, Leland Greenup of Arrey, New Mexico; two sisters, Essie Lee of Pleasanton, CA, Lorna Rasor of Sonora, CA; four children, son, Corby Haines (Arlene) of Ninelchik, AK; daughter, Pauline (Jeff) Plissner of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter, Mary Haines (Mark) of Anchorage, AK, daughter, Arden and (Robert) Landry of Custer, WA; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gunner Jim; siblings, Gordon, Walton, Lowell, Nelda and Leah.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to your favorite charity in Naomi’s name. At her request, there will be no service.

Naomi Berkley was a woman of virtue, kindness, and modesty. Of a tender heart, and generous spirit. A faithful neighbor, and friend. Her trust was in the Lord, may she now rest in his peace. John 10:27-29 states, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
Our deepest condolences to all of her loved ones. She will be missed.
