Nellie M. Coward, 74, a longtime Concrete area resident, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley.

She was born on March 29, 1936 in Nevada City, California, the daughter of Carl W. & Daisy M. (Hudson) Holtz.  When Nellie was still a young girl the family moved to the Arlington, WA area where she was raised and attended school.

On August 12, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ray Coward in Arlington and there they made their home and started their family.   They made their home between Arlington and the Skagit Valley a few times over the years until finally settling in Concrete in 1987.

Nellie enjoyed being around and having animals, especially horses and also enjoyed traveling and just taking day trips to new locations with family and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Daisy & Mike Fox of Concrete and Laura & Leonard Stone of Bremerton.  Her sister and brother-in-law, Karen & John Perez of Marysville; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Thomas in 1997 and husband, Ray in 1998.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Cancer Care Center at United General Hospital, 2000 Hospital Drive, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Tom Ross of the Mount Baker Presbyterian Church in Concrete officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Arlington Cemetery.

    A thought came over me today aunt nell? you would have loved this day” you had so many loved ones show up to honor you, I wanted you to know the love showed the day mom an dad went on vacation an I had to stay with you”an as a young teen with a girlfriend, I knew at the time my world was over, I laid in bed all night waiting for you to go to sleep, well you didn’t an when I made my escape at 5am on my ten speed you waited till I thought I got away with it, here you come up the hwy no other’s on the road an all is I could here was you going through those gears, you cought up next to me an told me if i dident pull over she would run me over an take me back an doctor my up enough for mom an dad! well I got in your truck an went back home you were not made at me you made me micky mouse pan cakes, you see you showed me love an understanding,. thank you antie! we will see each other soon under the new system, I love you take care till then

    Roberts family, she took care of JoAnn when
    she got hurt, many times we laughed over
    life’s funny things, she will be missed, but I
    feel she’s going to be waiting for us all, who
