Nora J. Marlow Hatchett, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28th, 2002. She was born September 20, 1913 in Bow, Washington the daughter of Fleet and Dovie Marlow.
Nora grew up in the Hickson community attending grade school there and graduating in 1932 from Burlington Edison High School. She was united in marriage to Howell Hatchett on November 11, 1937 in Skagit County. They made their first home in Forks, Washington, moving to Seattle and then in 1944 to Sedro-Woolley where they built the home in which she has lived for the past 45 years. Howell preceded her in death in 1978.
Nora was a bookkeeper and worked for Skagit County Credit Bureau, Cook Motors, and Truckers International, retiring in 1976.
Nora was a very caring and fiercely independent, active person right up to the
time of her death. Even though she was visually impaired she prepared a wonderful
meal, by herself, for her daughter and son in law and two oldest great-grandsons just three weeks ago. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to all who met her. She took great pride in her home, especially her flowers and garden which she was able to maintain until shortly before her passing. She was extremely proud of her daughter Arlene, son in law John, and her grandson, Shawn. During her life she took on many roles. She was a co-leader of a 4-H Club, was a Judge at the County Fair, PTA President, a volunteer in the Gift Nook at United General Hospital, and held all the officer positions for Evergreen Orthopedic Guild. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle and rummy, painting ceramics, embroidering pillowcases and dishtowels, and sharing the fruits and vegetables from her garden. Nora had many friends and cherished the friendship of each. .
Nora was preceded in death by her parents Fleet and Dovie Marlow, her husband of 41 years Howell, brothers: Dick, Fred, and Millard Marlow, sisters: Mattie Hayes, Bessie Allison, and Ellen Anderson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Arlene and John Eastman, of Sedro-Woolley, Grandson Shawn Eastman, his wife Jenny, and their 3 sons, Cody, Carson, and Colton of Fresno, CA. One sister Gertie Bever of Sedro-Woolley. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Terry Lovell of Bellingham with whom she spent many memorable times during the past several years.
