Saturday, January 29th, 2022

Norman (Joe) Edward Goode, age 86, passed away January 29, 2022, at home in Mount Vernon, Washington with his family at his side, after fighting a hard three and a half year battle with cancer.  He was born October 7, 1935, in Clear Lake, WA to Edward and Florence (Dye) Goode.

Norm spent most of his life in Skagit County with a brief time in Alaska, Florida and Whatcom County.   He married Joanne Fiamengo June 26, 1953 in Clear Lake, WA. After marriage, as a couple they purchased twenty acres North of Sedro-Woolley, where they raised their family.

As a young man, Norm set chokers along with his cousin, Don Rayfield at Baker Lake as preparation for the building of Baker Dam.  He became a shake sawyer in the area for several years.  In 1958, he went to Alaska to work on a fishing boat in Shelikof Straight.  He and his family spent a year in Gustavus, Alaska where he worked in the woods. Upon his return he worked on the Olympic Peninsula in the logging. In 1970 he and Joanne bought Robert’s Handicrafts in Mount Vernon. When the Mount Vernon Mall was built, they moved the store to the mall where they changed the name to Skagit Crafts.

Upon retirement they moved to Guemes Island to property they had purchased many years before, where they remained for nineteen years before moving to Mount Vernon.

Norman is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Noli Goode of Bellingham and Brett and his wife Lucy Goode of King Salmon, Alaska; grandchildren, Jason (Shelley) Gwin, Danelle (Shawn) McCormick, Sarah (Brandon Quantrille) Gwin, Nathan Goode, Troy, Kelvin, Mitchell, Bradley (Shelley Caulkins) and Alexandria Goode (Trevor Portch); great grandchildren; Taylor (Calvin Wold) McCormick, Lillian McCormick, Jacob and Kaitlen Gwin, Isaac and Leland VanDuker,  Kameron Quantrille, Layla Goode and Christopher Everly; Great great grandchild; Westley Wold; sister, Judy Fair of Burlington.
