PHYLLIS JENSEN, 89, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley, WA on Thursday October 24, 2002 following as brief illness.
She was born on December 15, 1912 in Wenatchee, WA the daughter of James C. & Florence Payne Hammond. As a young girl the family moved to the Clear Lake area and Phyllis attended grade school in Clear Lake and Big Lake. She graduated from SWHS in 1931. She was united in marriage to Axel Jensen on November 28, 1931 and for many years they made their home in Hamilton, WA, where Phyllis worked as the City Clerk for a time. In the late 1970’s they moved to Sedro-Woolley. They were members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley. Phyllis had many interests, with the one many will miss the most was her skill at altering clothes. Her sewing, knitting and crocheting were also exceptional. She loved her flowers, playing golf, her church and anything involving her children and grandchildren. She was ready to travel at a moments notice and especially enjoyed her trips to the East Coast with her daughter Joan and her many trips to California to visit family.
She was always willing to give of her time or talents when her family needed her. Your family and friends will miss you, your gentle heart and warm ready smile.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Axel in 1994, a son Neil in 1999, a grandson, Jonathan Buchanan in 1981 and 3 brothers, Kenneth, Burl & Roger Hammond.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan & Fremont Buchanan of Sedro-Woolley. Son & daughter-in-law, Roy & Dalene Jensen of San Diego, CA. A daughter-in-law, Emma Jensen of Ventura, CA. 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 expected great-great-grandchild in February and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be available on Saturday Oct 26th from 9 AM to 5 PM and on Sunday Oct 27th by appointment at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Private interment will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials to the Clear Lake Cemetery or the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley are suggested.
