Phyllis Wiles

Monday, August 18th, 2014

Phyllis Irene Wiles, 86, a longtime resident of Burlington, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 at her home with her devoted family by her side.

Phyllis came into this world on November 10, 1927 in Sunnyside, Washington, the daughter of Wesley & Marjorie (Drake) Hurn. The family resided in Sunnyside until the mid 1930’s when they moved to Seattle and where her siblings were born.  In the early 1940’s they settled in the Skagit Valley.

On April 10, 1946 Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Wiles and they made their home and raised their family for a while in Sedro-Woolley until settling in Burlington in 1958.

Phyllis enjoyed crocheting beautiful doilies for her family and friends.  She would also bake the family’s favorite dessert, apple pie, for all occasions, and freeze many for the winter months.  Cinnamon rolls and pineapple upside down cake were also a specialty.

She was always generous with her spare time, helping family anyway she could.

She loved animals, listening to country music, watching movies and enjoying the pretty flowers her son always provided.  She never left home without her earrings on and the heartfelt smiles that she gave to everyone.

Phyllis is survived by her 2 sons, Stephen Wiles of Collierville, TN and Randy Wiles of Burlington, WA; 2 daughters, Dianne Wiles Guzowski of Burlington, WA and Brenda Wiles Harley of Mount Vernon, WA; 2 sisters, Vernice Sherin of Eureka, CA and Marlene Hurn of Stanwood, WA; 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard; daughter, Karen Wiles and brother, Eugene Hurn

Private family interment will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.

Memorials in honor of Phyllis are suggested to the Skagit County Humane Society
