Richard ‘Dick’ Locke, 59, of Mount Vernon, WA passed away at his home on Thursday, July 11, 2002. He was born January 13, 1943 in Bellingham, WA to Kenneth and Jean Florence Locke. Dick lived in Skagit County most of his life, moving to Oregon with his wife Sandy in 1993 to pursue his love of the outdoors, until January of 2001 when they moved back to Skagit County to be with loved ones.
Dick worked with his father in appliance repair from 1964-1968; he then started working for Lakeside Industries until his retirement. He belonged to the Operating Engineers Local #302 and was a member of the Burlington Eagles AERIE # 3242. He was married to Sandy Wilcox on January 1, 1991 with whom he spent their many wonderful years together doing hobbies they both loved such as gold prospecting, metal detecting, old bottle hunting, woodworking, exploring ghost towns, astronomy, camping, and animal pop.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Jean Locke and brother in law Don Stafford. He is survived by his wife Sandy of Mount Vernon. 3 sons Rick and Kenny Locke of Concrete, and Matt Locke and his wife Karen of Mount Vernon, and a daughter Peggy Vail and her husband Michael of Burlington. Step-children Carla Wilcox of Seattle, Donnie Wilcox and his wife Soko of Stanwood, and Shannon Wilcox and companion Annie Luna of Portland, OR, Jeff Perrin and his wife Mickie and Kevin Perrin and his wife Cindy of Mount Vernon, and Tina Livingston of Hoquiam. Nine grandchilden including Shelby and Madison whom he spent many precious moments with. He was loved by his 4 brothers and 2 sisters Mick Locke and his wife Iris of Chino Valley, AZ, Lyle Locke of Sedro-Woolley, Garry Locke and Dale Locke both of Jacksonville, OR, Anita Adams and her husband Al of CA and Judy Fluer and her husband Warren of Grass Valley, OR. An aunt and uncle Martin and Marge Locke and families of Bellingham, WA. Sister in law Pat Stafford of Port Angeles, WA and brother in law Ralph Nelson and his wife Anne of Gower, MO. Numerous nieces and nephews and special friends Dave and Gayle Maurer of Lyman.
Special thanks are extended to his niece Carol and her husband Paul Borgen for opening their hearts and home upon Dick and Sandy’s return to Skagit County. A thank you also to Dr. Shetabi and the staff at the Oncology and Radiation unit at United General Hospital and Skagit Hospice.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Greenacres Cemetery located at 5700 Northwest Drive Ferndale, WA. A reception will follow the services at the family home at 17435 Britt Rd Mount Vernon, WA. Memorials are suggested to the Oncology Dept at United General Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
