Robert R. “Bob” Bever, 88, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 24, 2014.

Bob was born on January 16, 1926 in Bellingham, Washington, the son of Orville & Orpha (Ambrose) Bever.   He was raised in Wickersham and attended grade school in Wickersham and Acme and graduated from Mount Baker High School in Deming with the class of 1944.

After graduating from high school Bob immediately joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving his country during WWII.   Upon his return in 1946 he worked in the logging industry for several independent logging companies in Skagit & Whatcom counties.

On June 25, 1948 Bob was united in marriage to Sharon Sexton in Sedro-Woolley and they made their home in Wickersham until settling in Sedro-Woolley.

In 1954 Bob began a 38 year career with the Willis, Roger & Pearson / Sedro-Woolley Lumber / Boyd Lumber Company where he retired as a superintendent.

Over the years Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing but his greatest interest was being a “rock hound”.  He hunted for, cut and polished all facets of petrified wood and gem quality materials for which he won many national awards.

Bob is survived by Sharon, his wife of 65 years, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley; his children and their spouses, Julie & Bobby Herzog of Bothell, and Roy & Teri Bever and Jill & David Paulsen all of Sedro-Woolley; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; His sister, Hazel Marie Parrish and her husband, Kalen; his sister-in-law, Mary Lambert, brother-in-law, David Sexton and several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Roy Bever, who was killed in action in France during WW II.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Rachael Wangen-Hoch officiating.  Private interment will be at the Saxon Cemetery.  Memorials in honor of Bob are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Looking back at those years working at WRP with your father, he brought something that is very special and hard to replicate in the work place. FUN. I certainly feel priviliged to have had Bob as a mentor and leader. John

    Dear Sharon and family,

So sad at this point in time. Bob and Dad were great friends for many years.
I donated snacks to the Boys and Girls Club in Bob’s name.
I remember once when I was in high school (just a couple of years ago). I baked a blueberry cake (9×13 pan) I took it and coffee to the shop for the guys. When I went back later to get a piece I found it all gone. Those two enjoyed their sweets!

Julie and Family: I was so saddened to hear of your Dad’s passing. Memories started flooding in of all the times we spent together at your house or mine. Your mom and dad were so much fun to have around. One thing that I remember the most was that your parents let you have the car and we would go out on weekends and all give you 25 cents for gas! My memories of you and your family will be with me for ever. Thanks to your mom and dad for giving me a friend like you. Take care Julie. I love you.
