Robert Ray “Bob” Shannon, age 66, a lifetime resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012.
Bob was born on June 23, 1945, in Sedro-Woolley the son of Ray and Fern (Sorensen) Shannon. He grew up in Sedro-Woolley, graduating Sedro-Woolley High School in 1963, and then attended Skagit Valley College.
He joined the Army in 1966, serving in Vietnam, being promoted to Sergeant, until his discharge in 1968.
Bob was a 20 year member of the Moose Lodge in Mount Vernon and was also a member of George Baldridge Post 43 American Legion.
He worked 32 years for Alf Christianson Seed Company as a field & production manager, retiring in 2011.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman, fishing in Alaska from August to October last year. Friendship of many years was of major importance to Bob and he cherished the moments he spent with his friends.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Gidos, of Everett; niece, Andrea O’Brien and her husband, Art, and their children, Alexa and Austin, of Edmonds; cousins and numerous friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dave Gidos.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 6, 2012, at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, with Pastor Dennis Spinnie officiating. A Committal Service will follow at Union Cemetery with Military Honors. A time of visitation will be available from 9:00 to 5:00 Wednesday and Thursday at Lemley Chapel.
I am saddened to read of Bob’s (aka. Big Daddy) passing. I always looked forward to seeing him, he put a smile on my face and made a bad day better. RIP Big Daddy…
Bob, You are a wonderful person! I am sure there is a place for you in heaven among the angels,,,,although I have a tough time picturing you in white robe and wings. I just know you would see the humour in that!

Bob, you were a true friend. You invested your life in others, and we who have had the privilege of knowing you, have learned from you. Your passing leaves a big hole in our lives. Thank you for all the rides to work on those wintry days when it was unsafe to have me behind the wheel. Thank you for always making sure I had enough wood to get me through the winter. Your life was an example of caring and doing for others.

I met Bob when I went to work for Alf Christian Seed Co and we became fast friends. I will always cherish the time I spent with Bob sitting on his back porch on a warm evening visiting about the day or listening to his many stories. Bob was a unique sole in this world we live in, he was a proud American who tried his best to make people smile. When life would get me down he would put his hand on my shoulder and say “just keep smilin’ Honey and everything will be alright”. I will think of you fondly Bobby Shannon and that will make me smile.
Bob was a great friend and we will miss and think of him everyday. Always there for both of us. You had a heart of gold. Rest In Peace.

Barbara, I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was an exceptional human being. Put on this earth to make people smile. He was the most generous,giving, kind person. There was never a stranger in Bobs life. He will be missed very much.
So sorry for Bob’s passing, he was a great guy and will be sadly missed!! I will miss his funny sense of humor, all his teasing and joking. God must of needed a big hearted guy up in heaven and called on you Bob because we know there will never be a guy with such a big and kind heart!!! love ya Bob.
Bob, you will be sorely missed. We remember the many hunting trips to Eastern Washington, in our Apple Pie camp. Those were fun times. You will always be in our thoughts!
