Robert Vern Sjoboen passed away on May 30, 2025, in Anacortes, Washington.
He was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on February 19, 1936. His family moved to Concrete in the early 1940s. He met his future wife, Marion Shelver, in the 7th grade. They married in 1957. Bob was a middle school math and science teacher and later the Elementary School Principal in Concrete.
He was also very involved in the community as Mayor and Lions’ Club member. He was an active member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Bob and Marion moved to Anacortes in 2008 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren:
Anita & Dana McCoy; Nicholas & Mai McCoy. Leah & Jeff Wagner; Riverlyn, Kaladin and Eliora.
Paula Fors; Carin & Brad Moritz; Brock and Emmett. Kirsten & Victor Smith; Harold.
Lauren & Angela Sjoboen; Siri and Anders.
Marial & Shawn Dickson; Christopher, Kelsey and Kari.
Marion passed in 2016 after almost 60 years of marriage. Bob lived with Anita & Dana for the last two years. During this time, his primary concern and question was, “Where is Marion?” The answer was always, “in Heaven”. We know that they are now together in Heaven.
There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 2pm at the Forest Park Cemetery in Concrete.

To the family of Bob Sjoboen:
I just saw Bob’s obituary when I was looking for George Donaldson’s.
This is Nancy Coulter Skurdahl. Your Dad and Mom and all of the
first generation were very much a part of our family. My Dad and Mom
as parents of all five of us kids : Ron, Louise, Ed, Nancy (me), and Richard.
We were all your father’s students. Your Dad was also a friend to Ron for
so many years. One of the last stories I heard was the project your Dad,
my Dad and Ron to build a new swing set like the old one at the new
elementary school.
I missed anything in the newspaper because I took my daughter on a vacation
to Japan. Not the normal Coulter thing to do but away we went.
I am sure Mom (95) and all the family would send you their thoughts and
prayers. Your Dad was special. 360-540-6019
I enjoyed my years of teaching and living in Concrete. We moved there in 1978 when my husband Terry was hired to teach math and coach high school sports.
Marion was my mentor teacher when I did my student teaching in first grade. We went on to teach 1st grade together for many years. Bob was our elementary principal. Several generations of Concrete students were very fortunate to have both of them as educators in our school district.
Having attended church with them, I know that their Lutheran faith was very important. They demonstrated this often outside of church in their daily lives.
All of you can be so proud of your parents/grandparents . . . a truly wonderful couple. May they spend eternity together ❤️
Marilyn (Lane) Kelly
So sorry! Saw this in the paper this morning.
I still remember Paula taking us Christmas shopping a bunch. In some tiny car. Back in the late 70s?
