Rozena Marie Jonas, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born on January 6, 1928 in Ute, Iowa to Herman and Josephine (Kipf) Brummer.

Rozena grew up in Iowa. She married Ted Jonas on July 8, 1946 in Mapleton, Iowa. They later moved to Mount Vernon in 1953. For 31 years, Ted’s construction work took them across the northwest including Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Utah before settling in Sedro-Woolley in 1984.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Women’s Guild. Rozena lived for fishing, camping, family gatherings, board games, and was the Bingo Queen. She never met a stranger that she didn’t make feel special. Mom’s true grit, gift of laughter, and love will forever live in our hearts.

Rozena is survived by daughter, Jacqueline Jonas (Laurie Gent) of Sedro-Woolley and their children, Vanessa Perez (Chris), Kelley Evans (Greg) and Katie Rex (Jeff); daughter, Janelle Howell (Rod) of Yakima and their children, Clint (Lisa), Abbey, Chloe, and Spencer; son, Jay Jonas (Anita) of Selah and their children, Kyle (Stefhanni), Evan and Kim; great-grandchildren, Troy, Sydney, Brianna, Lucas, Jake and Wyatt; sister, Alice Armstrong of Lynchburg, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. Those preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Ted; her brothers, Rolland and Ray Brummer and sisters, Ruth Condit, Reitha Revak, Rosella Mohrhauser and Ramona Zediker.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley, followed by a reception at the Church Parish Hall. Private family inurnment will take place at the Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington. The family extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Gamson, staff of Mira Vista Care Center, ICU staff of Skagit Valley Hospital, and personal home caregivers over the years. Cremation services are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
