Tuesday, March 10th, 2015

Ruby Marie Sterley, 89, was born on January 29, 1926 and left this world for Heaven on March 10, 2015 at Skagit Valley Hospital, with her loving family at her side.

On November 19, 1943 Ruby married the love of her life Ivan Neil Sterley, in Snohomish, Washington.

Ruby became a nurse and loved her job, but her favorite was taking care of babies. She worked in Lewiston Idaho, Orofino Idaho, Chewelah, Washington, and Mesa, Arizona. Previous to becoming a nurse Ruby worked as a checker in a grocery store, Sear’s and also as a nurse’s aide in Brewster, Washington.

Ruby had a very strong faith and was Seventh Day Adventist. She knew she would meet dad and Michael in Heaven. She talked to many of us about our Jesus and what will happen. She had told Judy she was going to walk to heaven with her.

Her hobbies were square-dancing, bowling, golfing, vegetable gardening, roller skating, knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, sewing and in the last 20 years, flower gardening, Uno, tying fish flies, reading her Bible and books, making rugs, traveling, and watching the Seattle Mariners.

Ruby was number 1 support for her 1st generation grandkids; she so so loved her great-grand kids from near and afar, and treasured her great-great grand kids from Facebook pictures.

Ruby is survived by daughters, Donna (Sterley) Allen, and husband Al, Judy (Sterley) Johnston, and companion Ken, Sherry (Sterley) Hodgin and husband Ron; son, Denny Sterley, and companion Peggy; brothers, Jim Dale of California, George Dale of Alabama; sister, Eileen Nuss of Maryland; grandchildren, Kim and Mike Bowthorpe, Howard & Yolanda Allen, Doug Keran, Kenny & Shana Allen, Marcy Marshall & Zane Strasser, George & Cyndi Stormo, Windy & Kenny Osborne, Scott Stormo, Michelle & Brandon Piper, Bridget & Chris Perez, Angie & Tyler Houston, Heather & Jeff Dowery; great-grand children, Vance, Jessica, Nikki, Breanna, Greg, Ty, Jessica, Jacquelyn, Rachel, Jacob, Julie, Jessica, Bengi, Caleb, Vanessa, Mykel, Andrea, Ariel, Lars, Will, Ella, Olivia, Nataushia, Olivia, William, Samantha, Fenton, McKensley, Arron, Beau, Deigo, Callie, Preston, Ariel, Josiah, Landon, Jackson, Alex, Joshie, Isabelle, Abbi, Aiden, Ausden, Bently, Delaney; great-great grandchildren, Gage, Braden, Maximus, Alexander, and Elouise.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Neil; son, Michael; grandson, Jeremy; great-grandson, Joshua; 8 of her brothers, and 3 sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 3:00PM at the Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4520 E. College Way, Mount Vernon, WA. Ruby was laid to rest at the Lyman Cemetery in Lyman, Washington. In lieu of flowers please donate to any Veteran Association or the March of Dimes for Premature babies. Even though Ruby had a limited income she gave to the veterans and the March of Dimes faithfully. We know she would want us all to continue to give.
