Shirley Loreen Mortensen, 85, a longtime Burlington resident, passed away at her home on Monday, September 24, 2012 surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 18, 1927 in Seattle, the only child of Lorne & Ruth (Small) Patterson. She was raised and attended school in Seattle, graduating from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1945.
On May 12, 1951 she was united in marriage to John Mortensen in Seattle and they made their home there until 1958 when they moved to Burlington.
Shirley and John started Skagit River Junk which they operated for many years. She also worked as a clerk for Doug & Les’ Country Cupboard and at the Hannaford Drug Store in Burlington and she was also an Avon representative for many years.
She was a longtime member of the Jessie Miller Orthopedic Guild in Burlington. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, traveling, her family and friends and her animals.
Shirley will be missed by her two sons and their wives, Stan & Terry Mortensen and Alfred & Sherry Mortensen all of Burlington. Her three grandchildren, Brandon Schuh, Correy (Cross) Albertson and her husband Josh, Lorne Mortensen and his wife Christin (Vandersar) Mortensen; great-grandchildren, Morgan Schuh, Caylee McClintock, and Eric Albertson. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.
Private inurnment will be at the Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice of the Northwest.
