Shirley Marie Huscusson, 60, a longtime Sedro-Woolley area resident died on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Shirley was born on July 14, 1948 in Sedro-Woolley, the daughter of Ken & Carol Helgeson. She was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1966. She then attended the Mount Vernon Business College in downtown Mount Vernon.
For over 40 years Shirley has worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses and for the past 15 years has been a bookkeeper for Judy’s Bookkeeping in Burlington and the bookkeeper for the Sedro-Woolley Eagles. She has been an active member of the Eagles, involved in many of their fund raising events over the years. She was also an avid horse lover, residing on her farm in Sedro-Woolley with her trusty steed, David and her beloved blue healer, Lucy and she was also a longtime and active member of the Sedro-Woolley Riding Club.
Shirley is survived by her children; Curtis Huscusson of Sedro-Woolley, Ron Huscusson and his wife Cynthia of Deer Park, WA, Haley Huscusson of Burlington and Carline Cress and her husband Rob of Palm Springs, CA. Her parents, Ken & Carol Helgeson of Sedro-Woolley. Step-children, Brady Geerdes and his wife, Katie and Bernie Bates and his wife, Desi of Sedro-Woolley and Shay Geerdes of Mount Vernon. Two brothers, Roger Helgeson and his wife Dianne and Kevin Helgeson of Sedro-Woolley; a sister, Sandra Ruddell and her companion Tom Magin of Burlington and a half-sister, Layna McCallister of Los Angeles, CA. Her former spouse and longtime companion, Mike Geerdes. Her 15 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Ryan, Ronny, Johnny and Charity Huscusson, Mason Cress, Jared Brittian, Kylie Stephens, Devon & Kayla Whitney, Riley Geerdes, Joshua Soren, Michael Euteneier and Carissa & Riffy Bates and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her former husband, Dallas Huscusson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Raish and the staff at North Puget Oncology at Skagit Valley Hospital for their loving care and to Judy & Dave Berentson and Shirley’s many friends for their support over the past several months.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley Eagles, 1000 Metcalf Street.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
