Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Stanley John Pawlowicz, age 70, a long time resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Stan was born in a potato field near Ogienssczyna, Poland, about 1940, the son of Bernard and Tekla (Podolska) Pawlowicz.

Stan’s family immigrated to Hammond, Indiana, where he met Sharon Holmer.  He served 52 months in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Korea. His tour was extended by four months because of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Stan was a longtime volunteer with the Community Crime Watch of Sedro-Woolley and the Helping Hands Food Bank. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 8672 and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon; son, Scott Pawlowicz and his wife Autumn of Sedro-Woolley; daughter, Shari Henry of Marysville and son, Skip Pawlowicz and his wife Sabine, of Buechenbach, Germany. 6 grandchildren, Steven, Alisha, Nick, Skyler, Corey and Kennedy. 2 sisters, Anna Zajac of Chicago, Illinois and Sandy Koehler, of Dyer, Indiana; his brother, John, of Dyer, Indiana and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and Godchildren.

A Memorial Mass Celebrating Stan’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 719 Ferry Street, Sedro-Woolley, with Father Thomas McMichael presiding. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Memorial contributions are suggested to North Puget Oncology, at United General Hospital, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, or the Helping Hands Food Bank.

Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Stan was a wonderful brother to me. I could always count on him to be there when I needed him. He always had a ready smile and never complained or demended attention. He was easy going and willing to share his time or his possessions. I loved him very much and will miss those big blue smiling eyes and cheerful voice whenever I called him on the telephone.

Also, I want to extend my deepest sympathy to his wife Sharon, his children, and their spouses: Scott (Autumn), Skip (Sabine), Shari, and grandchildren: Alisha, Skyler, Steven, Corey, Nick, and Kennedy.

    His loving sister Sandy

We lost our wonderful Grandpa and Father-in-law. There are no words to write, how much we miss him. Grandpa pulled always something out of his garage for us to play. It was always fun and we enjoyed the time with him.

We send our hearts to our family! Sorry that we can´t be there.

Dear Pawlowicz Family: I am so sorry to hear about Stan’s passing. When I was your neighbor Stan was always outside doing something and he always smiled. He was a great person and will be missed by all. My deepest sympathy to his family and to all who knew Stan and loved him.

It was our pleasure to have known Stan. He was a very helpful, caring and a dedicated man. It was my pleasure to work with him on paperwork when he served as the Grand Knight for the Sedro-Woolley Council. We will miss his
visits into the church office with his reports of what was going on in the
community. The strength that he exhibited when he was so sick were just
amazing. I will miss his, “Hey girl, how you doin”

Stan was a man of strength and determination. He was a dedicated volunteer and served his community proudly. Even on days when we knew he wasn’t feeling well, he would show up at the police department to do vacation checks. Stan worked at the department as a volunteer for over nine years, doing vacation checks and parades. I know he also volunteered for the Food Bank and his church as well. He surprised us more than once, showing up to serve when we didn’t expect to see him. We remain grateful and would like to thank his family as well and tell them we are sorry for their loss and ours.

When we bought our home in ’91, we were lucky to be 2 doors away from Stan and Sharon. But the day I met Stan, my very first introduction to the neighborhood, left me unsure. He was walking the alley and we exchanged “Hi”s as I stood on the back step. Then he informed me in his no nonsense tone, that he’d been hoping and praying that our 70′ spruce would fall through our roof for 20 years. And that pretty much ended the conversation. We later found out that it was the previous, moss covered roof that he couldn’t stand. As the years and home improvement projects rolled by, Mark and I could set our clocks by the time it took Stan to be over with tools, curiosity, and TONS of advice. Once we rented a jack hammer and the two fought over it. Stan, obviously, couldn’t pass up a chance to play with such a fun tool while Mark tried to stop him because Stan had just had heart surgery. For all his abrupt and crusty bravado, he was a caring and generous man. A tough guy with a Pomeranian on his shoulder! I can’t count the times he saved us while we vacationed. Broken water pipes, crime patrols, feeding pets, he was the glue in our neighborhood. As I look around my yard, I see pieces of Stan, memories of conversations and help he so happily gave. Memories of his teasing me and our laughter. We are going to miss him.

Stan was a wonderful, dear man, and a great humanitarian. We will always remember his tireless dedication to holding blood drives and helping save lives in his community. Our thoughts are with his family and friends – there are so many who will miss him.

  • Carol Rondello of Puget Sound Blood Center

Stan organized the Sedro Woolley blood drives for many years on behalf of the Knights of Columbus Council 8672 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He could always be counted on to make sure that the blood drives ran smoothly. Stan’s efforts with the blood drives brought health and comfort to many patients in our community. Stan was a can-do guy dedicated to serving his community and making the world a better place for others. It was a pleasure to work with him.
