Terry “T-Dub” Williams

September 13, 1951 – September 25, 2010

Terry W. Williams, 59, a resident and member of the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe of Sedro-Woolley, Washington, entered into rest at home surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, September 25, 2010.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Mary; daughter, Maria; special grand daughter Tara, whom he raised as his daughter; grandson Terry; grand daughters Rae Anne and Shontae all of Sedro-Woolley; step children, Elishia, Jo Anne and Ken of Tulalip and Shontae, Donna Mae and Steve of Lummi; brother, Sherman and Marilyn Williams Jr.; sisters Francis and Felix Victor, Sherry and Steve Spane, Lori and Ernest Revey, all of Sedro-Woolley; aunts, Elsie Baker, Tina King George, Geraldine Williams, all of Sedro-Woolley and Darlene Charles of Queets and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Terry was a logger and commercial fisherman, hunter and avid outdoorsman.  He was taught at a young age by his parents Sherman and Arlene Williams how to survive and live off the land.  He spent a good portion of his life in the mountains and on the river.  He gathered cedar roots, cedar bark, cherry bark and cat tail rushes for his mother’s cedar work.  He also gathered cedar tips, pearlies, pine cones, salal, cascara bark, mushrooms and all wild berries.  He hunted grouse, deer and elk, fished salmon, gathered clams, crabs and grunters.  Terry was one of the first Upper Skagit members to master the Skagit River and taught many how to fish the Mighty Skagit’s “Pur” as well as the Wilderness, Slaughter Hole, Dark Hole, Bar Drift, Town Drift, Spud House, the Corner and the Middle.

In the early 70’s, Terry spent many winters babysitting the Smokehouse babies in the Lummi and Swinomish, and in 1990, he was initiated into the Upper Skagit Smokehouse and was one of the first Upper Skagit men to come out a Dancing Red Paint.  For many years, he was his father’s main drummer when his father first started his work.  Terry truly believed and cherished the native ways.

Terry has joined his father and mother, Sherman and Arlene Williams; sister, Margene Tom; brother, Arlen “Guy” Williams; nephew Ernest Lucien Revey; grand nephew, Anthony Scott Grant Herandiz; maternal and paternal grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Terry loved his family dearly, his door and heart were always open to them, and many sought him out when they needed someone to talk to.

Evening Prayer Services will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 7:00 PM, at the Upper Skagit Tribal Gymnasium, Sedro-Woolley, WA.  The Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Upper Skagit Tribal Gymnasium.  The final resting place will be the Hamilton Indian Cemetery in Hamilton, WA.

Mary, Our heart goes out to you in your time of loss – here is a little poem for you. “Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherised memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they’ll live on in the heart.” Unknown author. L.U.

My family sends condolences to Terry’s (Dungo) family. We grew up with Dungo for many years he was our cousin. We shared all of his family as our family like Grampa Art, Grampa George, Grandma Alice. You shared our mother Bessie Williams with your family. I share a grandson James with the family. I send my love to the family from my family. Reuben Mathias, Virgil Mathias, Bud Mathias, Gary Mathias and Cheryl Mathias. We’ll never forget our family from Skagit. Thanks for being our family.
