Theresa Ann Chason, 62, of Sedro Woolley, passed away on Thursday February 20th. Theresa was born on August 9th 1951 to Charles and Ruth Cressey in Seattle Washington.

Theresa graduated from the University of Washington with a Masters degree in nursing. Much of her career was spent as an emergency room nurse at United General Hospital and Skagit Valley Hospital. After retiring, Theresa volunteered time to colleges as a teaching assistant sharing her experience and knowledge in the field of patient care.

During her lifetime Theresa showed her beloved horses and was an accomplished marathon runner. Theresa’s great love for animals led her to volunteer at the Skagit Valley Humane Society.

Theresa is survived by her son, Alex Anderson (Lisa) of Burlington; Brother Christopher  Cressey  (Thess) of Snohomish; sister Linda Powell of Orlando, Florida, grandson Jaxon Anderson and nephew Christopher James Cressey.  Long time companion Jay Hurlburt, of Sedro Woolley, also survives her.

At Theresa’s request there will be no services.

Theresa was one of those nurses who should have continued her education and become an M.D., but then we (the nurses in Critical Care ) would not have had the chance to know and work with her. She was a very intelligent and excellent nurse. Farewell Theresa and may you rest in peace.

I always looked forward to my chats with Theresa. Our last nice visit was outside United General Hospital. Once we began talking we just could have went on for hours and almost did at times. A caring, thoughtful and intelligent woman is how I always felt about this special lady. Theresa and I first met at Riverside Gym in Sedro Woolley about 7 years ago. What energy and determination she had! She and her companion always on the treadmill and I would get on the one next to them wondering if I could keep up? Mostly I could not, at least not for as long as they did. And I will not forget her love for animals. Her horses, dogs and other special ones. What a fabulous heart and spirit Theresa maintained. Much love to you and not ever forgotten. Jan Koch

I met Theresa when I worked at United Recovery and she was the nighttime supervisor who relieved me for my breaks. She was all business and had no time for small talk and I wasn’t too sure I even liked her.. I’m not sure when that changed but she and I became the best of friends and never had trouble talking the rest of our friendship. We even managed to have a full on verbal fight in a public place of business that would make us laugh instantly when we reminisced about that memory as well as many more. I will miss you my dear friend and our many many talks of how we solved all the world’s as well as our problems. I am so glad that your suffering is over and so very proud to have known you and the very special person you were. I am only sorry that I couldn’t have been there for your last days. You have left your legacy for those who care to carry it through. As the song says “We Will Remember You”! Love and hugs to those you leave behind.

I was so saddened to hear about Theresa’s passing. She was an excellent nurse with many skills and dedicated to her work be it in the Critical care or Emergency Room. I enjoyed her quiet wit and admired her abilities and strength. She was an inspiration and will be missed and remembered by many. God bless her loved ones in their sorrow.

Inspirational, Mentor, I learned a lot from you Theresa about life and nursing. I cherish the phone interview we had recently, I hope your paper continues to be required reading for the MN program at U of W.

I was saddened to hear about Theresa’s passing. When I think of her, the word “vibrant” comes to mind. Who could forget her smile and wit?

A Take Charge woman, she was. From the day that I met her, Theresa struck me as being the epitome of efficiency, energy, and dedication to her work; she was the kind of ER nurse that every patient deserves and hopes for. I learned so much from her, and kept her example in my mind and heart even after her own health issues forced her retirement. Her passion for life—and for the horses and other animals she cared for—was inspiring; and though she was often a very private person, her wit and warmth would shine through in amazing flashes of brilliance. I have no doubt whatsoever, but that she is already looking around in her new environment, and figuring out ways to make things function more efficiently there. Thanks, Theresa; you were and are very much loved.

I have known Theresa for many years. She was one of my night shift nurses in coronary care. She expanded her talents and skill to critical care, shift supervisor and emergency room. She was an excellent nurse. Theresa was always interested in being physically fit and practiced a healthy life style. She even kept weights in the coronary care unit to get in a little exercise if the patients were stable and sleeping. I remember when she told the rest of us that the way to prevent colds was to eat lots of raw garlic. It worked well because no one could get close enough to her to give her any germs! Unfortunately we took report in a small room! She was a very caring and giving person and loved animals. I will miss her.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Alex, Linda, Chris and their families. I will always remember Theresa as a strong, independent woman who could accomplish anything she set her mind to. Her love of horses and dogs brought her great joy. Theresa will be greatly missed. May God bless you all in this time of sorrow.
    Sincerely, Janet
