Truman James Asbury Hoyle

Monday, March 5th, 2018

Truman James Asbury Hoyle, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away at Prestige Care in Burlington on Friday, March 2, 2018, after a long battle and complications from lung cancer. He is now free of the pain and at peace. He was 81 years old.
Born in Sylva, North Carolina on August 4, 1936, Truman was one of three children born to Henry and Burla Hoyle. He spent his childhood years in Jackson County, NC, before his family moved to the Skagit Valley in the 1950’s. He met and eventually wed Sharon Peterson in January of 1957, a marriage that lasted until her passing in September of 2014. They loved and raised two sons, Marlon and Brian.
From the 1960s thru the 80s, Truman was an avid hunter and developer of hunting dogs in the region. He made many lasting friendships within the Upper Skagit hunting community. He also loved family camping and fishing trips. He and Sharon and the boys were often found together on the banks of the Skagit or at one of the local lakes.
Truman was an accomplished millwright, working for many years at several of the upriver shake and shingle operations. After leaving the shake industry, he and Sharon teamed up for many years as motor route drivers for the Skagit Valley Herald.
Dad had a strong love of family, friends and his close-knit church community. He will be remembered for his quiet, but spot-on, sense of humor. He will also be remembered for two other things: If Truman ever took the time to comment on a subject, it was worth listening to; and if he ever promised to do something, you could always count on his word, a rare thing today. He will be greatly, deeply missed.
Truman is survived by his son, Marlon (Trish) Hoyle; daughter-in-law, Becky Hoyle; 8 grandchildren, Brian (Cristy), Brandon (Lisa), Jeremy (Carrie), Jennifer (Verlie), Carrie (DJ), Whitney (Dustin), Stan (Jeramy) and Shannon (Terry); sister, Norcella Bowers; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his extensive church “family”. Truman was preceded in death by his wife Sharon; youngest son Brian; his mother and father, and his brother, Lloyd.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley, followed by a short graveside service at Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington, WA. Following the services, a celebration of life reception will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Community Church, 901 Talcott Street. Visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM at Lemley Chapel.
