Velda B. Wahl, age 99, a resident of Amazing Grace Adult Family Home in Edmonds, Washington died February 23, 2010. Velda Loy Brantner was born on January 25, 1911 to Jessie and Mae Brantner in Crescent, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in Guthrie, Oklahoma where she eventually was part owner in a chili parlor with her sister Versa.  As a young person, she regularly attended the Assembly of God Church in Guthrie. After graduation, she attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas.  The college has since moved to Enid, Oklahoma. Velda and her sister toured the southwest playing their musical instruments and evangelizing.  While at school in Waxahachie, she met Ray Wahl.  Subsequently, they married and had two boys, Raymond J. Wahl of Mountlake Terrace and Dr. David Von Wahl of Totem Lake. She and her husband pastored churches throughout Oklahoma.  In the early 40’s, they moved to Acme, Washington where they pastored the Acme Assembly of God into the late 60’s.  There Velda attended Western Washington State College in Bellingham, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1962 with a Master’s Degree in English Literature.  It is now Western Washington University.  She taught in the public schools in Washington and retired in 1976.  She moved to Mountlake Terrace where Ray was building a church.  She pastored Grace Chapel in Mountlake Terrace for a number of years.  While pastoring Grace Chapel, she traveled to Jamaica and Israel on mission trips and to Panama to visit her granddaughter. She is survived by her two sons Jon Wahl and his wife Louise, and Dr. David Wahl and his wife Judy; grandchildren Stephanie Russell and Sean and Scott Simonson; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 26, 2010, at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, Washington, followed by a graveside committal service at Saxon Cemetery in Acme.
