Vernon Bryant Bovier, 95, a resident of Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, January, 20, 2011 at Where The Heart Is Retirement Community in Burlington.

He was born on February 24, 1915 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Charles & Ruth (Vernon) Bovier. Vernon grew up in West Seattle and lived his entire life in Washington and Oregon. He resided in Mount Vernon during the 1950s and resettled there permanently in 1977.

As a youth in Seattle, Vern worked for his father’s seed and landscaping business and then as a bellman at a downtown hotel. He later served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the Seattle waterfront during WWII. Employed by Langendorf Bakeries at 18, Vern enjoyed a long career in sales, including many years as a supervisor, an ideal match for his outgoing personality. Following his retirement from Langendorf in 1977, he sought other employment to remain active and among people. He is well remembered for his friendliness and personal work ethic by former co-workers at the Cranberry Tree and Jack-in-the-Box restaurants in Mount Vernon. He took his final retirement at age 85.

Vern was married from 1938 to 1956 to Mary Harvine Bovier with whom he had three daughters. On October, 22, 2006, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Elma Bovier.

Vernon is survived by one of his three sisters, Esther Burnett of Renton; Three daughters and their husbands; Carol and Eldridge Higgins of Oklahoma, Constance Bovier and Peter Wolfe of Texas and Marlyn and Robert Scott of Texas; A step-daughter, Della Parker of Mount Vernon and daughter-in-law, Helen Ann Parker of Concrete, the widow of Vern’s late step-son, Stanley Parker. Vern is lovingly remembered by 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and treasured friends.   Vern was preceded in death by his two sisters; his twin Virginia Finnie and Angenette Sundeleaf.

A devoted Christian, gifted in encouragement, prayer and singing, Vern was a long-time member of the Assembly of God church in Burlington. A friend to all, he was at home everywhere in God’s world.

His family wishes to thank the staff at Where the Heart Is in Burlington for the loving care they provided to Vern from 2003 until his passing.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 11:00 AM. at the Sedro Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Rob Thomas of the Community Bible Church of Concrete officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.

Vernon was a friend and client of my late husband, Elliott Johnson. Elliott always enjoyed his visits with Vernon . He was a truly wonderful man, and will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

What a blessing to have Vern Bovier as my father. I always felt well-loved, through good times and challenging times. My heart is rich with treasured memories of these many years. Until we meet again, Love, Connie

Just a week ago I was sitting next to Dad and he said “We have had some great times haven’t we!”. Yes Dad, we sure did.
One of my favorite memories is from a visit I made several years ago with our 7 year old granddaughter. Before we left Dad started us off signing “You Are My Sunshine”. That little girl was made to feel very special that day, like Dad had a way of doing with all of us.
Robert and I are missing you, but rejoicing, knowing we will meet again.

I am so sorry to hear about Verns passing. He was a wonderful, dignified, handsome, well respected man.. the ultimate gentleman. I didnt get to Elma and Vern very much, but when I did, what I saw was a devoted couple sharing the most beautiful love for each other I had ever seen. I could be with them in the same room and feel it. If everyone could experience what they shared, this world would be a much better place. God Bless you Vern. You will be greatly missed. Many Blessings to the families of this gracious man.

  • Pastor Trevor & Valerie Harris

Dear Marlyn, Carol, Connie and all the families –
I was so sorry to hear the loss of your wonderful father (and grandfather). I still have a very vivid memory of him from my childhood – he made an impression on me even the one time I remember meeting him. We pray the Lord’s peace be with you during this sad time and that you will be able to sense the joy he must be experiencing now as he is in the presence of his dear Heavenly Father!

We will miss grandpa so much! I can remember as small children we would always fight over who would sit next to grandpa when he came over. He would give you a big squeeze and always give you some encouraging words, with lots of attention and love. Love and will miss you, Gramps
