Walter H. ‘Buck’ Cassell, age 81, passed away early morning Thursday, September 28, 2006 in Sedro-Wo-olley, WA, where special angels took him to his eternal home.
He was born June 3, 1925 in Sedro-Woolley, WA, the son of John and Edith Dusbaback Cassell. Walt grew up in Sedro-Woolley attending school and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1942. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 and was honorably discharged. After the war, he worked in the logging industry until becoming a truck driver for Skagit Valley Trucking for many years, until his retirement.
He was married to Wanda Sanderson in 1955 and they separated in 1962. He then married Pat Brandstrom in 1972 and she preceded him in death in September of 1983.
Buck was a member of American Legion Post #91-Burlington, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2069-Sedro-Woolley, and the Teamsters.
His favorite pastimes as a young man included his family, fishing, hunting, and camping. In later life, he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, bingo, and poker.
He is survived by his six daughters, Sandra Mitchell and her husband David of Concrete, Melanie Nederhood and her husband Clifford of Wenatchee, Julie Oosterhof of Texas, Wendy Scott and her husband Gary of Rochester, NY, Gail Austin and her husband Rick Benefield of Mount Vernon, and Diane Logsdon and her husband Gail of Burlington. Former sons-in-laws, Pete Oosterhof and Larry Zimmerman. Grandchildren, April Cassell and her companion Adam Butler, Angelique Cassell, Moranda Waddington and her companion Jake Wright, Kelsey Oosterhof, Amy Powell and her husband Timothy, Clinton Nederhood, Roger Nederhood and his wife Kristen, Mark Cassell, Allan Straub and his wife Laurie, Angelia Pedelini and her husband Paul, Jarrid Zimmerman and his companion Jennifer Fritsch, Lisa Zimmerman, Todd Logsdon and his companion Alicia Pimental, and Holly Rinne and her husband Jason. Great-grandchildren, Shannon Butler, Ciera Butler, Dominic Cassell, Aidrien Cassell-Seger, Jackson Powell, Mya Powell, Trei Witherington, Kalani Witherington, Isabella Rinne, Olivia Rinne, and Lukas Rinne. Nieces, Edith Gustan and Jackie Greer and her husband John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Cassell, a grandson Kristopher Waddington, sisters Lee Hustad and Edna Gustan, and a brother Percy Cassell.

Memorial Services will be Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Bruce Martin of the Concrete Assembly of God Church officiating. A reception will follow the services at the Burlington American Legion Hall. Memorials are suggested to North Puget Oncology or Make A Wish Foundation.
