WID MEDFORD, 95, a lifelong resident of the Hamilton area, passed
away on Sunday August 25, 2002 at Valley General Hospital in Monroe, WA.
Wid was born on June 18, 1907 in Hamilton, WA the son of Willis & Lucy Howell Medford. He was raised and attended school in Hamilton until 1921 when he began a long career working in the woods. Wid worked as a tree faller and bucker for over 40 years until an auto accident forced his retirement in 1961. He worked mostly for the Lyman Timber Co., logging in Skagit & Whatcom counties, but also did some logging in Oregon. He was united in marriage to Selma Cope in Hamilton on May 9, 1929 and they made their home there for 68 years until her death in 1997. Together they enjoyed traveling and hiking and fishing in the Cascade Mountains.
Wid is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Barbara Medford of Hamilton. 3 grandchildren, Donna Wright, Tiffany Duvall and Ron Medford. 8 great-grandchildren, Don Ensley Kristi, Jason Ensley, Jeremy & Tanya Scott, Bobbi Jo & Heidi Medford, Nathan Sandahl and Gracie Duvall, and 1 great-great-grandson, Gabriel Ensley. 2 brothers-in-law, Lawrence Hornbeck of Rockport and Art Queen of Arlington. 2 sisters-in-law, Loretta Walker of Palm Springs, CA and Blanche Mahaney in Arizona.
Besides his wife Selma he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leona and a granddaughter Carolyn Scott. 2 brothers, Charlie Medford and Thurman Mahaney, and 2 sisters, Maude Taylor and Mabel Justice.
Graveside services will be held Thursday August 29, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Hamilton Cemetery. Pastor Ron Schenk of the Lyman Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation available at and services under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Memorials to the Punkin Center Fire Department or a charity of your choice are suggested.
