Curtis M. Anderson

Curtis M. Anderson

Saturday, April 1st, 2006

Curtis M. ‘Sonny’Anderson, 74, longtime resident of Ketchikan, Alaska, passed away in Mount Vernon, Washington on Saturday, April 1, 2006.
Sonny served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He owned and operated Centennial Engine for many years in Ketchikan until becoming a sport fishing guide and captain of the M/V Lovely Lady, a 45 foot Bayliner. He was fondly known as Captain Curt or Sonny to family and friends and happiest when on his boat dragging a fishing line or sharing his passion for the abundant beauty of Southeast Alaska.
Captain Curt will always be known as a very hard worker. His daughters realized that his heart was that of an angel because what he really worked for was so he had something to give away. In the end he had no material possessions but it took the end for him to gain his real treasures and what we all are truly searching for; a relationship with his Creator. He spent the last 6 months of his life battling the complications from a spinal tumor. In true form during those 6 months he fought to the end until he had made peace with all his children. He brought his family closer and received forgiveness from God. His family was with him when he passed on from this life and started his remarkable journey home. In the end, he was able to teach his children about life by teaching them about dying; a profound gift to his children as we witnessed his struggle with darkness and his triumphant call to glory.
Sonny is survived by his sister, Geneva, Chamberlain of Oceanside, California; daughters: Helen Anderson of Enumclaw, Washington; Debbie Rasar of Mount Vernon, Washington and Kathy Gates of Anchorage, Alaska; sons: Eddie Anderson of Nikiski, Alaska and Curtis E. Anderson of Petersburg, Alaska; grandchildren, Eric, Caylon and Logan of Mount Vernon, Ethan of Enumclaw, Eddie, Katie, Robert, Mabel, James, and Ruth of Nikiski.
He will be deeply missed but his life will be celebrated. His ashes will be scattered on the waters of Alaska.
Cremation arrangements under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, WA.

Helen, ‘little Curt’ and Debbie may never read this … But Curt Sr was more a part of my life than any of you may ever know. I was a young kid in Ketchikan back in the day. Curt and Terry enthusiastically included me in many Events – square dancing, fishing, parties at the house, etc. He also loved the ocean and I so loved his stories. He was a very good guy to me and inspired me in many ways. Though it’s been many years since he passed away, I just learned of it moments ago. Sorry for your loss – and, to the family – hello from the distant past. Michelle
