Dennis Paul Hizey, 59, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2005 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley in Sedro-Woolley after a short battle with cancer. He was born November 3, 1946 in Seattle, WA, the son of Gordon and Laurie Hodge Hizey.
Dennis was a resident of Skagit County since the age of 15 attending Burlington High School and graduating with the class of 1967. He was Yell King for Burlington High School in 1966. He attended Skagit Valley College and graduated with an Associates in Technical Arts Degree.
He worked for the Washington State Parks as a park ranger from 1970-1975 and then worked on the Alaska Pipe Line until 1979 as an EMT, and from 1979 to 1987 he worked for Stockmar Northwest Industrial Maintenance at the Texaco Oil Refinery in Anacortes. For many years, he was an active volunteer for Skagit County Search & Rescue and their many affiliated organizations. He also was a Little League and Babe Ruth coach from 1982 to 1985.
He is survived by his son, David Hizey of Burlington and his daughter, Tiffanie Morgan of Sedro-Woolley. 3 grandchildren, Kylee Morgan, Mackenzie Morgan, and Jalyn Hizey. Step-mother, Jessie Hizey of Oak Harbor. 3 brothers, Jimmy Self of California, David Self of Sand Point, ID, and G.G. Hizey of California, and 2 sisters, Suzie Scully of Pocatelo, ID and Adele Tomsom of Oak Harbor. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, George Self and a sister Judy Regan.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 2:00PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley with a reception to follow at the American Legion Club. Arrangements and services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
