James G. ‘Jim’ Davison, 74, a lifelong Skagit County resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.
Jim was born in Birdsview, Washington on May 23, 1934, the son of William Elmer & Letha Buckner Davison.
He was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley. In 1952, Jim and lifelong friend, Dave Rohrer joined the U.S. Air Force. Jim was stationed at Fairchild A.F. Base in Spokane, WA; then at Thule A.F. Base in Greenland during the Korean Conflict and he finished his military service at Smoky Hill A.F. Base in Salina, Kansas in 1956.
After his discharge, Jim returned to Skagit County where on August 30, 1958 he was united in marriage to Mary Cartwright and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley spending 50 years together. A long term member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Jim worked for many years at Skagit Steel Corporation and retired when the Sedro-Woolley facility closed in 1990.
Jim had a heart of gold. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed the company of dear friends. Jim always had a very easygoing and happy attitude with a wonderful sense of humor. Through his life, he enjoyed many things, collecting stamps, building and flying model airplanes, bee keeping, raising beef cattle, and carpentry. He greatly enjoyed working with wood, making wooden lawn decorations for friends and family, building his own garage and remodeling his home. Being mechanically minded, he always did his own vehicle maintenance and repair. He will always be remembered as a loving and gentle man.
Jim is survived by his loving wife , Mary at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His daughter, Donna Davison of Sedro-Woolley. Four grandchildren, Steven Davison-Ringhouse, Jonathan Davison-Rahkonen and Amanda and Lydia Jane Davison all of Sedro-Woolley. One brother, Everyll Davison of Kennewick, WA; one sister, Maurine Raymond of Lynnwood, WA and several nieces and nephews. Close relations by marriage, Amy Butler of Sedro-Woolley, Everett and Virginia Cartwright of Sedro-Woolley, Jane and Bob Blair of Startup, WA, Lois Cartwright of Ohio, Trudy Yockey of Winthrop, WA, Louis Cartwright of Bridgeport, WA, and Cliff and Donna Brown of Brewster, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jamie Davison;, a son, Scott Davison and 2 sisters, Katherine Carpenter and Freda Nesmith.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley or local Veterans Associations.
Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Michael Smith of the Valley Baptist Church officiating. A reception will follow the Services at Valley Baptist Church.
