Karene M. Mumford, 76, a lifelong resident of Skagit County passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.
She was born on May 19, 1930 in Anacortes, WA, the daughter of Leonard and Elsie Okerlund Kruger. She was raised and attended school in Anacortes, graduating from Anacortes High School with the class of 1948.
She was united in marriage to James R. Mumford on September 25, 1948 in Sedro-Woolley and together they made their home there for 55 years. James preceded her in death in 2003.
Karene and Jim operated a dairy farm north of Sedro-Woolley for several years and as the family grew Karene was a devoted mom.
When her son Rick opened a marine business she became the bookkeeper, clerk and ‘Manager in charge’, working there for several years, retiring in 2003.
Karene enjoyed gardening, playing cards and being with her family.
She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Connie & Ray Wickert of Burlington and Nancy & Dave McLaughlin and Rick & Debbie Mumford of Sedro-Woolley. 5 grandchildren, Scott McLaughlin, Kim Taylor and Holly, Dave & Matt Mumford. A brother, Gary Kruger and his wife, Judy of Sedro-Woolley and 2 nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are suggested to North Puget Oncology, 2000 Hospital Dr. Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284 or the Skagit Valley Kidney Center, 1415 E Kincaid, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
Private inurnment will be at the Burlington Cemetery.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
