Laura Lee Dunning, 76, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Skagit valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born on January 25, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Clarence & Mary Dougherty Conkling. Laura and her family made their home in Colorado, Arizona and California before moving to Coupeville in 1944, finally settling in Sedro-Woolley in 1946 where Laura graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1950.
Laura then moved to Seattle where she worked as a stenographer. In 1953 she was united in marriage to William Dunning, Jr. and they made their home and raised their family in Seattle. As her children grew older Laura worked as a playground safety monitor at several schools in the Seattle school district.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing, making quilts and making items for charitable organizations. She also enjoyed gardening, especially growing dahlias, motorcycle touring, and participating in the Sedro-Woolley Alumni Association activities.
Laura is survived by her children, Brian Dunning of Everett, WA, Larry Dunning of Flaxton, ND and Elizabeth Swiger and her husband, Walt of Marysville, WA. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A sister, Bonnie Pullman and her husband, Arthur of Sedro-Woolley; an aunt, Alice Prescott of Lacey, WA; one niece, two nephews, six cousins; a special friend Claire Mortensen of Sedro-Woolley and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence & Mary and by her husband, Bill Dunning, Jr.
Graveside Inurnment Services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
